Spanish rider Carles Falcón has passed away after sustainingserious injuries in the 2024 Dakar Rally, his TwinTrailRacing teamhas announced. Falcón fell and was badly injured during the secondstage of the rally on Sunday 7th January, and was airlifted to AlDuwadimi Hospital having been resuscitated after being foundwithout a pulse following the incident. He was repatriated to Spainin intensive care having been placed in an induced coma aftersuffering a cerebral oedema (swelling of the brain) afterfracturing his C2 vertebra as well as ribs, his wrist andcollarbone. On January 15th, his team announced that Falcón hadpassed away as a result of his injuries. "The medical team hasconfirmed the neurological damage caused by cardiovascular arrestat the time of the accident is irreversible," read a teamstatement.
