Porsche still 'interested' in F1

Porsche has stated that it "remains interested" in the prospect of competing in Formula 1, despite the focus turning to Audi within the Volkswagen Group. The German car-maker pursued a link-up with Red Bull for 2026, but subsequently decided that it would not enter when the new regulations come into effect in two years. The brand currently competes in other top flight motorsports, including the World Endurance Championship and Formula E. Director of motorsport, Michael Dreiser, believes the brand is still interested in entertaining the prospect of competing in F1. “Motorsport will always be at the core of our brand identity,” he told Blackbook Motorsport . “Formula 1 remains an interesting racing series for us. “For the next few years, we are concentrating on the current factory programmes with the Porsche 963 in WEC and the IMSA series, as well as in Formula E with the Porsche 99X Electric. "There, we want to fight for overall victories. That is our tradition and our main focus, and we do not comment on speculation beyond that.” Audi committed to F1 Audi's current CEO Gernot Dollner, who took over from Markus Duesmann in September last year, has previously reiterated Audi's commitment to F1 following reports over their doubts about the project. Speaking in German business publication Handelsblatt , he said "the plan is in place" but explained that slow decision-making was largely behind the lack of communication in the previous business structure. Sauber recently rebranded to the 'Stake F1 Team' on a two-year deal before their Audi takeover is complete. Team Representative, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, explained the nature of the current situation. "Why there is a lack of communication is simple," said Alunni Bravi. "We have certain limitations in communicating about the team, about the future, about the involvement of Audi. "We don't want to make any kind of announcement or more than what is strictly related to the race and the championship."
