Toto Wolff has branded Mercedes and Ferrari both "losers" aftertheir Formula 1 drubbings at the hands of Red Bull in 2023. Bothsquads entered the season hopeful of closing the gap to Red Bull, who won 17 of 22 races in 2022, but car concept failings meant RedBull was unchallenged throughout the year, taking 21 of 22 racewins. Ferrari scooped the other win, through Carlos Sainz inSingapore, as Mercedes went winless for the first time since 2011,as the battle between the two for second in the Constructors' wentdown to the last lap in Abu Dhabi. Mercedes would emerge ahead byjust three points, but its 409, was less than 50% of the 860 scoredby Red Bull - with Wolff bluntly labelling both outfits as"losers." "Both losers," was Wolff blunt reply when asked by mediaincluding RacingNews365 if he preferred finishing second without awin or third with a victory. "It's better to be second for themoney and the bonuses and it is better to be P3 because of thewind-tunnel time. "Ferrari has 7% more than us though, and we wouldhave had 14% more than Red Bull [if we finished third], but youcan't get what you always want. "You want the bonuses and the extrawind-tunnel time."
