TREMAYNE: Why hasn’t there been an Italian F1 world champion since 1953 – and can Antonelli end the drought?

The nation started so well when the Formula 1 World Championship was inaugurated in May 1950. Three of the first four titles were won by Italians. Dr Giuseppe ‘Nino’ Farina was the first that year, driving for Alfa Romeo.
