In 2014, Formula 1 introduced a penalty point system in order topunish drivers who consistently caused accidents during raceweekends. Certain in-race offences are punished not only with atime penalty but also with points - any driver that accumulates 12points in 12 months is handed a ban for the next applicable race.Points carry over from one season to the next, with Pierre Gaslyinfamously having 10 points to his name by the end of last year, meaning he had to take extra care to keep out of trouble in theopening rounds this season. Currently, there are no drivers in thedanger zone but it's Red Bull's Sergio Perez who is atop the liston seven points. A number of drivers don't currently have anypoints to their name - they include Alex Albon, Fernando Alonso,Pierre Gasly, Charles Leclerc, Kevin Magnussen, Lando Norris,Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri and Daniel Ricciardo.
