One for is for sure about Red Bull's new 2024 Formula 1 car, theRB20. It will carry the colours of the Red Bull livery that havebecome iconic, the cars will have #1 and #11 stickers on them andanything less than retaining the championship titles will be seenas a failure. Red Bull is yet to officially announce its launchplans, but the RB20 will be seen at the very latest by February21st when it hits the track for testing in Bahrain. In 2023, theRB19 was 'launched' but this was a smoke and mirrors affair wherebythe 2023 livery was stuck onto the show car, but in the end, theRB19 was a gradual evolution of the '22 RB18 machine that wrestledboth titles from Mercedes. While the RB18 and RB19 looked verysimilar, back at Milton Keynes, the team had been busy putting theformer on a strict diet to shed the kilos having been overweightfor a majority of the 2022 season. Given the fact that Mercedes andFerrari both fumbled in 2023, it was clear early on that Red Bullwould win both titles and so the development taps on the RB19 wereturned off quite early, with the full weight of Red Bull throwninto the RB20. This is crucial as over the lifespan of technicalregulations, the laws of diminishing returns states that Red Bullwill eventually hit a development block while the likes of Mercedesand Ferrari enjoy greater performance boosts. What do Red Bull say?"It will come as no surprise if I tell you that the new car will bean evolution of the current car," explained chief engineer PaulMonaghan. "It would be foolhardy to throw away this concept, but atthe same time we have to make progress. We need to be able to findlap time. The competition is right on our heels and if they take astep, we have to take a bigger step. "In the RB20, the lessons welearned from the current car will come back, as will the goodaspects. Then in Bahrain next year we will see if we have done wellenough." Where can Red Bull improve? RacingNews365 technicalanalyst Paolo Filisetti believes any performance finds will comefro the Venturi channels under the car that are vital tosuccessfully sealing the floor and generating ground effects. RedBull is believed to have such upgrades in the pipeline for sometime, with no immediate rush to bring them to the car.
