Which driver cost the most money when it comes to damages duringthe 2023 Formula 1 season? It's the table that no driver wants tobe at the top of as it means they have likely inflicted a lot ofcrash damage throughout the year. Logan Sargeant tops the listafter his difficult races at the Dutch and Japanese Grands Prix,bringing his total to $4.3 million. Sargeant crashed twice atZandvoort, costing Williams $1.4 million. The team even revealedthat development for 2024 was impacted by the many crashes, as AlexAlbon's total also came to $2.7 million. Number two on the list isCarlos Sainz, which is mainly due to two big crashes in the season.The Spaniard fell victim to a loose manhole cover in Las Vegas,then crashed a week later in Abu Dhabi, costing Ferrari a whoppingtwo million dollars. Add in some more damage at Monaco, Canada andBelgium and you arrive at a figure of $3.6 million. The finalpodium was for Sergio Perez. The Mexican drove $3.2 million indamage, the most significant crash happening at Monaco where Perezcrashed hard during qualifying and cost Red Bull more than amillion dollars. Verstappen hadby far the fewest incidents The driver at the bottom of this listis Max Verstappen, with the Dutchman's total coming in at $345,000.Verstappen sustained damages in Azerbaijan (a broken sidepod aftera touch with George Russell in the sprint race), Great Britain(broken front wing while exiting the pit lane during qualifying)and Las Vegas (broken front wing after another touch with Russell).Ironically, Russell sustained damage in the fewest race weekends.Besides Las Vegas, he sustained damage only in Canada andSingapore. Valtteri Bottas, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton alsokept the amount under a million.
