Colton Herta has issued an update on his quest to secure a Formula1 drive in the future. During the 2022 campaign, the IndyCar starwas being tipped for a move to AlphaTauri for the followingcampaign. Red Bull unsuccessfully sought an FIA Super Licenceexemption for the American and opted to sign Nyck de Vries instead.Herta's best bet of a Formula 1 drive now appears to lie withMichael Andretti and the former racer's plan to form his own team.Andretti passed the FIA's first phase and it is now in discussionswith F1's commercial rights holder. Herta currently races forAndretti's IndyCar squad and is a strong favourite for a drive inF1 should the bid be successful. While Herta still has an eye onmaking the move to F1 in the near future, the 23-year-old assertedthat his primary focus is currently on IndyCar. “I think it’s verytime-sensitive. I’m probably at the highest age that I couldprobably go over there with a team, maybe, besides Andretti,” hesaid. “I don’t have anything to report on their side of things. Ithink their goal is still to get a Formula 1 team, and they’restill trying to. “If that happens we’ll have to see what timelinethat is and how old I’ll be and where I’m at in my life at thatpoint. “So for me, really, just the main focus right now isIndyCar, and we’ll see where it goes.”
