Drivers may be the talking point of F1 but it is widely recognisedthat a huge part of any success story is the car. No one doubtsthat Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton, for example, wereinstrumental in their own triumphs in the past decade, yet havingthe right machinery is vital in order to gain trophies. Enginesare, of course, a key part of a car's performance and here we takea look at the five most successful suppliers in F1 history. HondaHonda may have jumped in and out of F1 on multiple occasions but itremains one of the most successful engine manufacturers in thesports' history. The Japanese manufacturer has been an integralpart of some of the greatest cars the grid has welcomed, whether itbe the Williams of 1986 and 1987, or the McLarens of 1988 throughto 1991. Those years took in the official Constructors'Championships Honda has been a part of, though Red Bull's recentsuccess has had a hand from the manufacturer. In all, Honda hasofficially been a part of 89 race victories and 223 podiums, including that stellar run McLaren experienced in 1988 where theteam won all but one race in the season. Again, unofficially, thesestats are inflated due to Red Bull's recent successes but whilstthe stats won't be added to for now, Honda returns to the grid inan official capacity with Aston Martin from 2026. Mercedes Mercedeswas the manufacturer that hit the current power unit regulationsrunning, dominating the Constructors' Championship between 2014 and2021. But the German marque found plenty of success as a supplierlong before it returned to the grid in the form of a works outfitin 2010. The partnership with McLaren gave it its first title in1998, with the total now standing at 10 - having also added to thetally with Brawn GP in 2009. Mercedes has picked up 212 wins as anengine supplier, with 582 podiums also recorded. Ford CosworthThere was a time in F1 when the engine to have was a Ford CosworthDFV. Quite simply, the engine was a masterpiece and was the reasonmany teams found success in the late 1960s all the way up to theearly 1980s. A first title in 1968 with Lotus was followed byanother six consecutively, with the tally taken up to 10 bytriumphs in 1978, 1980 and 1981. The Ford Cosworth was responsiblefor 176 victories during its time on the grid, whilst the 533podiums amassed prove just how popular the engine was during thatperiod. Renault The Renault works team may have come in and out ofF1 as frequently as Honda's entire operation, but the Frenchmanufacturer has had a strong bond with the sport since entering. There has been plenty of success too, with 169 wins and 463 podiumsamassed by Renault engines. But three golden periods have allowedthe marque to notch up 12 Constructors' titles in F1, beginningwith a six-year stretch between 1992 and 1997. Fernando Alonso'striumphs in 2005 and 2006 saw Renault become Constructors'champion, while Red Bull's four-year domination between 2010 and2013 added to the roll of honour. The stats have been padded morerecently by podiums for Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly for Alpine, though wins and titles seem a distant dream for now. Ferrari Itwill be of no surprise that Ferrari tops the list with a stunningsuccess rate as F1's ever-present manufacturer. The Italian outfitis the most successful manufacturer in the sport, with Ferrariengines finding plenty of success over the years. In total, 813podiums have been scored with a Ferrari engine powering the carwhilst 244 wins have been recorded. A huge 16 titles are noted inthe record books, beginning in 1961 and ending with the lasttriumph all the way back in 2008. When will the next title come forthe Scuderia?
